Red Spires Among Green Grasses

Zanna Smith

This loose watercolor painting depicts upright stalks of red and orange blossoms rising through swept green and blue grasses against a yellow-washed ground. The brushwork is gestural and rapid, with dry-brush flecks standing in for individual florets rather than describing them.
