Robin on a Winter Branch

Zanna Smith

This watercolor painting depicts an American robin perched among crossing bare branches, its rust-orange breast set against a pale blue and lavender wash of distant twigs and buds. The foreground branches are painted in firmer brown and grey strokes, pulling the bird forward from the diffuse background.
